Terrible Triad Touring Agency: New Orleans

Yrael grins as she steps out from the bar and into the deserted alleyway and the New Orleans early evening. She glances over her shoulder to see Liz and Nikola follow her through the door, which closes behind them.

"We've got a while before I have to be there for my gig," she grins at them, "so I thought I'd show you around the French Quarter."

Since, and she may be ever so slightly sheepish about this, she hasn't gotten around to doing so before.

Places shown include historical houses where voodoo priestesses and witches (i.e. mutants) were said to have lived, buildings mentioned in various works of vampire fiction that are set in New Orleans and how they were actually about mutants, cemeteries where the undead (or mutants with limited regenerative powers) roam on Halloween, back alleys where fights between supernatural entities (actually mutants of course) supposedly took place...

At the end, the tour guide deftly covers himself with a disclaimer regarding the tour company's stance regarding the personal opinions of its tour guides not necessarily reflecting the views of the company, of course, before suggesting various ways that those taking the tour might contact their congressmen and senators regarding the upcoming mutant registration act, to help make "their fair city safer" for its human inhabitants.

Nikola's opinion of the tour guide is pretty well summed up in his sneer as they leave. "Mutant registration act?"

Liz's features hold a frown as she tilts her head at Yrael because mutants sounded odd to her, let alone that registration act on them. Granted she was a leopard... "Why do these mutants need to register?"

"Oh, because the humans feel threatened, of course," Yrael says, lingering by the doorway.

"The mutants are 'unnatural,' 'abnormal,'" Yrael gives Nikola a glance. "They have 'powers' that make them dangerous, despite it being simple genetics in most cases. The humans don't understand and don't want to, so they fear, and seek to pass sanctions against that which they fear."

"It's stupid, and sad." She watches the other tourists break into smaller groups and leave, but still she waits, leaning against the weather-beaten, age-darkened brick wall.

Nikola's frown deepens. "And rather like looking into a crystal ball," he says. He can easily imagine the Cabal pushing a law like that through any number of parliaments and congresses.

Liz scowls softly. It was stupid and sad and in her opinion completely unnecessary. "Should just leave well enough alone," she murmurs as she shifts to settle next to Yrael against the wall.

"They should," she agrees, softly. "But they will likely need help to see it. One moment-"

Yrael looks up, straightening, as the young woman in grey exits the tour office, smelling of blood. Indeed, when Yrael's hand catches her wrist and holds it tight, there is a knife there that had been previously hidden, blood still on the blackened blade. She struggles, but catches Yrael's eye and stills.

"I just wanted to tell you your work is appreciated, and ask that you give your guild mistress my regards." Yrael knows that Belladonna will be able to tell who her agent had met, simply by description. Message delivered, she lets the grey-clad woman go.

After a moment of wary staring, the grey-clad woman steps back into the street and melts into the milling crowd.

Yrael grins at her companions. "Sometimes, though, there is help."

Nikola watches the exchange with amusement. He also scents the blood before seeing the knife.

"Friend of yours?"

The blood scent of blood always earns Liz's attentions easily. Her mouth quirks into a lazy smirk as she watches.

"That is my kind of help." Just don't tell Anita...? Might be frowned upon or something.

"An employee of a friend, perhaps," Yrael grins. "Belladonna, who gave me the token that allows me a permanent door to this world, is the leader of the local assassins' guild. She's very adamant in her support of the mutant population and their rights in the political and social world."

Yrael grins. "She's practically a friend of yours, too, Nikola. She own that mansion outside of town." She gave Yrael that room for his very own. And she's the one who put that scratching post in the corner of the room.

Nikola grins back. "A very good friend to have, then."

Liz's brow raises a little because the mention of a mansion looses her a little. Though it doesn't last long. Attention span of a cat and all. "So where to next, dears?"

"Coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde to clear the palate?" She suggests with a smile.

Nikola smiles and offers them each an arm. "Sounds fantastic."

Liz slides up to Nikola's side and around his arm with a grin. "Sounds perfect to me."

"Then, this way, my friends," she says, taking the vampire's arm and resting her hand on his.

Cafe du Monde thrives in the evening bustle, an awning-covered area six times the size of the building in which the coffee and beignets are made, lit up in gold and white against the night.

Nikola smiles as they approach. "I've always wanted to come here."

Liz's eyes are bright as she takes in more of the city. Traveling being difficult at best in her world, she rarely goes anywhere, so this trip means a lot to be able to go and enjoy. And the company is amazing too.

"It's so pretty, this town," she murmurs, almost thoughtfully.

"It's one of the loveliest that I've seen," she says, smiling at the elegant second-story balconies, the elaborate wrought-iron railings and boxes of decorative plants designed to weather the winters with grace, listening to the ever-present music from street corners and from the doors of clubs. "It is full of life."

"Let's find us a table." The cafe is busy, as it ever is in the evenings, and there are people hovering around the edges of the canopy, looking for a table to snap up the minute its occupants seem to be rising to leave.

"Yes, let's."

Luckily for them, they are faster than the average patron, and Nikola manages to snag a table that becomes free before anyone else has a chance.

Nikola has amazing table snagging skills. So says the smug smirk that Liz has.

"It's very busy here. Must be amazing coffee and beignets." Yes, Liz is sad in her knowledge of the place's amazing stuff.

"World famous coffee and beignets," she grins as they take the table, and not just at the looks on their disappointed competitors' faces.

Nikola pulls out chairs for them before taking his own seat. "It's one of those things you absolutely must do when you come to New Orleans."

Liz slips into one of the chairs with a grin.

"Well then I'll count my blessings I have such lovely guides to make sure I don't miss things like this."

A young man soon extracts himself from the hustle and bustle to come take their order.

"Beignets and coffee for three?" Yrael suggests, looking at her guests. Ordering is simple, at Cafe du Monde.

"How do you take your coffee?"
